Photographer for life

Cyndy | Announcements | Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Did you know that we do more than wedding photography?  Paul loves photographing many different things and started out as a crime scene photographer back in his policeman days.  Ok, granted CSI photos are probably not something you want us for but we do other things, like babies, families, celebrations, and high school seniors.

I just put together a demo slideshow and DVD to show off some of my hubby’s work with some really cool Seniors.  Head over to this link to check things out and pass it on to any high school juniors and seniors who you think would love photos like this:

Feel like a super model?

Good!  Because we need two models for a photo workshop that we are hosting here at the studio.  Here are the details:

  • Date:  Tuesday, September 30th
  • Time:  11am – 6pm
  • What:  Shoot with Beckstead workshop (check out link for a video clip of how it will go and what kind of photos come out of it all)
  • Who:  David Beckstead (one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world, Paul, Cyndy, and about 10 other photographers all taking your photo!)
  • Where:  Harmony & Zelienople area (just north of Pittsburgh)
  • Attire:  Wedding dress, hair and makeup.  You can wear your own dress and veil or borrow one from our collection (I’ll need your size)
  • Benefits:  You will receive a collection of high fashion digital images from a dozen different photographers.  What a way to get one more use out of your wedding dress!

Disclaimer:  We’ll be working outside so your dress will get street dirt on it.  But this session will not involve water like our Splash the Dress sessions.

If you are interested, please send Paul your name and phone number along with a recent photo – PaulMeyer@PaulMeyerPhotography.com or give us a call at 724-467-2391.

Have your cake and eat it too

Cyndy | The Cake,Wedding Tips | Friday, September 12th, 2008

Tammy, the owner of Cakes by Tammy, recently gave us some great advice on keeping your cake fresh for the traditional first anniversary feasting:

Method #1

  • wrap the entire cake box in several layers of plastic wrap
  • place it inside a large storage container before placing it in the freezer

Method #2

  • place the cake top (inside the box) in the refrigerator for 2 hours until the icing is firm
  • remove the cake top from the box and wrap it in several layers of plastic wrap
  • place the cake top back inside the box and wrap the box with several layers of plastic wrap before placing it in the freezer

Thawing the cake

  • Remove the cake from the freezer and place the entire box in the refrigerator the day before you plan to eat it.  Directly thawing the cake at room temperature will cause condensation to build up and will result in a soggy cake
  • On the anniversary day, take the cake out of the fridge and leave it at room temperature for at least 5-6 hours
  • Cyndy’s additional tip:  When transferring the cake from the fridge to the counter, remove the plastic wrap.  Find a large storage container, like those used to store lettuce.  Using the lid like a plate, put the cake top on the lid and then cover the cake completely by putting the storage container over it like a dome.  This tip will help you to keep the maximum amount of frosting on your cake rather than on the plastic wrap.

Tips for a great cake experience

  • Avoid fillings in your cake top.  Fillings do not freeze well and will negatively influence the taste of the cake
  • Write a love note to include in the cake box.  Open it on your anniversary date to relive those special feelings you had while the memory of the wedding was still fresh in your minds
  • Put on your veil to eat your cake.  Yes, it may sound silly but having a good laugh together is one of the best things you can do.  And what a great tradition it would make if you whipped out that veil every year on your anniversary!
  • And, of course, pull out those wedding photos for a trip down memory lane!

If you have any tips or topic suggestions that I haven’t posted already, please feel free to contact me directly at Cynthia.Meyer@beautifulalbums.com or PaulMeyer@PaulMeyerPhotography.com .  Paul and I just love sharing information to make your wedding day its very best!

It’s that time of year again…

Cyndy | Announcements | Monday, September 8th, 2008

Yes, we’ve been silent this last month since our return from vacation.  That’s because it’s our busiest stretch of the year from August through the end of October.  October is our biggest month with 6 weddings as well as the final deadline for all album orders required by Christmas.  Throw in there a few high school senior photo sessions, fall engagement sessions, some hectic boudoir scheduling, and the start of the Christmas card family photo sessions and you can see why blogging gets ignored.

But I wanted to tune in on a few items of note:

  • Our Splash the Dress sessions are coming to a close.  We just finished up the second to last session of the year this past weekend and the water is still warm.  Not Bahama warm, but for me, growing up on the shores of Lake Erie, the water is WARM!
  • All of my Sundays are booked in full for boudoir photography (check out www.PittsburghBoudoir.com if you’re looking for a great wedding, anniversary, Christmas, or Valentine’s gift for that special someone).  However, weekday afternoons and evenings are still available.  From all the women I’ve heard from this is the gift that knocks their loved one’s socks off!
  • We are now officially booking for the 2010 wedding season.  Anyone who books with us by December 31, 2008 will receive the current pricing for weddings.  As of January 1st, 2009, we will be raising our prices to help offset the increased cost of gas and such.  For those of you who have been with us for a while, you know this is the first price increase that we’ve had since 2006.
  • There are still plenty of prime fall wedding dates available for 2008.  There are 3 Saturdays open in October, 4 Saturdays in November, and 3 in December.  We will not be booking any weddings on Saturday, December 26th this year so that we may spend time with our families.
  • Paul is continuing his photojournalistic photography work for Duquesne University this year.  So if you see him on campus or at an event, please make sure to say hello!  Last year he was able to photograph Jerome Bettis’ commencement speech and get an autograph for our collection.  We’re excited to see who DU gets for this year’s graduating class.
  • Guestbooks are a great way to showcase your engagement photos.  I recently switched to a new manufacturer who offers a fantastic book with a great price and quick turnaround.  Email me at Cynthia.Meyer@BeautifulAlbums.com for more info.
  • I’ve been gathering more wedding tips and tricks and will post them soon.  I love how creative our brides and grooms get!

Enjoy your day!
